You dont have to use ModX or make your mod AutoMod compatible. A simple textfile is fine
But if you post Mods here You also have to give support

You will increase the server load by doing that.

Yup but i host myself :D so i ant got no one to bother me about usages and loads plus im the only member on my site lol (private site for file access when away)

thought il post that last bit so some might get the hint and turn it on before playing with files and edits as the most common reason is down to refresh's not being done it would save a lot of forum posts lol

Wonder is there is or can a script be made to tune it into a switch from on the index page ?

depending on the type of host/server you have you should or shouldn't have that ticked all the time!

sorry i guess i missed the top posts! i was trying to say the same thing!
