Live 'post made' (popup) notification

Looking to create something similar to what happens in the Chat box when a new post is made on the forum, (as long as the user has permissions to see it), eg javascript pop up box, or something similar to PM Notify & Guest Register bar, but with the option to dismiss the message, or go to the link.

This would be to create a sense of the board being dynamic, so when someone is online they get to know about posts made by others also online in real time, without having to keep going back to 'active topics'.

This could be a great mod for phpBB.

PS. Happy to donate ideas as well as money.

Yes, popups could be annoying, so there may another way, like the box in Top Stats to display the most recent topics, but updated live, without having to have a page refresh. Yes, some sort of javascript would be necessary, to poll the new posts regularly. I'm sure that someone has already written something that would do this sort of job and that there are many people capable of writing something to do this from scratch.

Btw, I have made two donations each for the two authors of the mods I use most, and don't expect free coding, but if I can help anyone with my limited knowledge, I will try and for free.

Thanks Martin_K. This would be an Ajax type mod. I know of one that updates the Index page for who is currently on line so you may be able to model from that but I am not sure. It's at Rich's site (mod author of mChat).
