If i dont respond back tonight and you see the install screen use this topic : viewtopic.php?f=10&t=474
to guide you throught the install, just ignore ftp client folders settings and upload files etc just do the install screen instructions.

and when I click this........# Go to the Start menu -> Apache Friends -> XAMPP -> XAMPP httpdoc folder -> and create a new folder called phpbb where you will copy the uncompressed version of phpBB you downloaded.
# Finally, go to http://localhost/phpbb/install/install.php and follow the instructions.
http://localhost/phpBB3/index.php
I get the same error message.....

Re: Setting Up A Localhost
yes this is getting confusing
extract the phpbb files to the htdocs folder
will show C:\xampp\htdocs\phpBB3\
visit here again : http://localhost/phpBB3/index.php
the installer will pick up that phpBB3 is not yet installed and will take you
here: http://localhost/phpBB3/install/index.php
night mate ,just keep putting the phpBB3 folder with in htdocs and try visiting the links a posted

Re: Setting Up A Localhost
http://localhost/phpBB3/index.php
^This one works^ It takes me to the xammp welcome page
but I click this one...
http://localhost/phpBB3/install/index.php
and I get "object not found message"
This may sound daft but where do I down load the php files from?
sorry for being a pain....

Re: Setting Up A Localhost
Let's try it one more time, have you created any folders inside the htdocs folder made by xampp? if so you should put in the address bar this http://localhost/nameofmyfolder/ for example if you upload all your phpbb3 files inside a folder named phpbb3, or whatever you have called it, vectra used for example phpbb3, so you would go to http://localhost/phpbb3/install/index.php to install your phpbb3 forum. Each folder you create inside the htdocs folder acts as it's own website! I asked you previously to go to the apache friends website and read the FAQ's towards the bottom! you might be getting and error if you have not setup any passwords for the xampp root or the phpmyadmin, you need to create a password so you can set up a database for your sites, if you have not created one then you wont be able to install a phpbb3 site. You have posted a couple of times that you get an error, but you have not really said what that error shows or says. Now i should go write a book with the amount of words i have posted on this post!
