guide to update phpbb3.x forum to the newest version

Before updating your forum you should make a complete back up of your database and files ,and disable your board from members being able to aceess the forum whilst the update is in process.


Here we go, instructions below.

1.Visit your admin control panel and click on the system tab,follow the on screen instructions that guides you how to obtain the updated files and a link to get the files.
2.Once you have uploaded the install and docs folder to the root of your forum click on the link to start the update procedure.

Once read the introduction proceed too the next screen

Choose to update the database.

Now confirm to update the database.

Success!! continue the update process now.

Now the system is checking for any differences in your files.

Select the update method i chose the reccomended option. :)

1. Now download the files in the format you want them in.
2. Extract the files and upload to the root of your forum.
3. Once all files are uploaded,the final stage will be to check the files again.

Now goto your admin control panel and you will see that there is a notices 1. a warning asking you to delete the install file 2. about the config.php file being world-writeable (some servers may differ on these settings)

Using your file transfer client right click the config.php file and adjust the file permissoins to what your server recommends.

Delete or rename the install folder i deleted it.

Your system tab page will look like this . :)

Now goto styles tab and refresh your styles templates,themes,and imagesets.

Now purge the cache !! test your forum ,i created a topic, posted,sent a private message etc everything works great :)

Undisable your forum and enjoy :D
